Hot Topics for MRCGP and General Practitioners

Authors: Louise Newson and Ash Patel.

"Hot topics" are the latest advances, evidence based guidelines, papers or topical issues facing general practice. The sheer volume of information facing a GP registrar before the MRCGP exam is somewhat daunting, and searching for the latest evidence by hand would take many laborious hours. This book is a superb introduction to the latest issues facing general practice. The authors themselves have recently taken the exam and the text is very exam focussed.

It is concise and very easy to read. There are references and summaries of many landmark studies. Long, dry but important documents are presented in digestible chunks. There are many useful web site addresses and these together with the references provide a suitable starting point for further study.

It covers most areas of general practice and is particularly useful for its sections on politics, the NHS reforms and national service frameworks. The quality of the chapters is a little variable and some are too concise.

However this remains a brilliant "rough guide" to current general practice key issues for the MRCGP candidate and GP alike.
