The 5-minute Clinical Consult, 2002 for PDA

Editor: Mark Dambro

The critical point which helps to understand the nature of this product lies in the title. In fact the word PDA is the give away, for those who don’t know what this means, it means a Personal Digital Assistant. This is a term used to describe a handheld computer device such as a Palm. In fact, this product was tested on a Handspring, which supports the Palm operating system.

Installing involves a number of processes, the CD is installed into the host PC and then the data is transferred across to the handheld device via a hotsync operation. Then the product becomes fully activated after obtaining an unlock code over the Internet. Though the whole process sounds complicated, it is not.

The quality of the content is good and without doubt is most useful to a UK based primary care practitioner. The implementation of the large amount of material (3.8 megabytes on a Palm operating system) is done superbly. It is easy to search, find and read about major topics and most users will master this software within a few minutes. Without doubt we will see many more people use PDA inspired electronic products. However this one is excellent, being leading edge, user friendly and provides on the spot information.
