Handbook of ENT - Diseases and Disorders of the Ear, Nose and Throat
Author: CAJ Prescott
ENT contributes significantly to primary care workload and so a simple no nonsense book is always welcome.
So step forward this small but useful handbook from South Africa which shows many similarities to other handbooks from the same publishing company. It is small, compact - just over 200 pages - and has the same tough vinyl cover as other members of the handbook family. This means it can be slipped into a pocket or not take up too much room on a busy GPs desk or bookshelf and be robust enough to survive.
The contents are aimed squarely at the medical student though primary care staff is also included in the target audience. The diagrams are plain line drawings and the text is easy to read and is logically laid out. Many GPs will probably benefit in reading this book in its entirety as this will not take long and will be an excellent method of coming up to date and refreshing their knowledge base. Special mention should go to the ENT top ten at the beginning; this is a list of pearls of wisdom, which everyone should read.
