Roxburghs Common Skin Diseases - 17th Edition
Author: R. Marks
Dermatology textbooks are always a pleasure to look through and this one is no exception. Despite the fact this book is in its 17th edition (I could not find anything to explain who Roxburgh was, which is a shame) I had not come across any of the previous editions. So I came to this book with no preconceived ideas - probably no bad thing.
Well, this book is an absolute cracker. It is beautifully produced on high quality paper; there is generous use of colour within the text, tables, case histories and of course photographs. Needless to say there are loads of quality illustrations, all of excellent life- like clarity which is not always the case in dermatology textbooks. The text is easy to read, written in a relaxed and highly readable style and most of the basics with a smattering of the not so common are all there. The text is broken up into small titled paragraphs making it easy on the eye and I would say the level is pitched at the medical student/GP readership. It is certainly ideal for the latter.
Within its 328 pages most GPs would find that this book would satisfy their requirements and to be honest, the book is so well produced, it is tempting to pull it off the bookshelf and just open it up at random and have a read. Possibly most surprising of all is the very competitive price. At a penny shy of £25 this is super value for money.
